The Shivalik Mountains

When I woke up in Dewaal it was already 5 am. Early morning hours in Shivalik Mountains are very different. You woke up to chirping of birds, from the window you can see the Snow Clad Nanda Devi - and Mandakini river is flowing down the hills - with its green clean water. So all you need now is Garam Chai (hot tea ) with off course ginger in it. And with the grace of Maharajji - your wishes are fulfilled, even as small as having a Garam Chai. So, we scaled down from Roopkund and the members of the expedition were going in different directions now. 9 of us were going towards Karnaprayag but me and Tony wanted to visit Kainchi Dhaam so we took the Ranikhet route via Baijnath - Kosani. And let me tell you that we had NO intention to visit Mahavtaar Baba's cave in Dunagiri though we had many times asked the great saint to call us.

Nanda Devi Circuit

So we started a very lonely journey with no human signs for at least 50 kms. It was a dense jungle in the himalayas - our first stop was Baijnath - a group of Shiva temple said to have been built in ONE NIGHT. It was a long journey till here but we never kept TIME in our minds - & the whole story is how Maharajji played his leela with TIME. All we thought was to reach Kainchi Dhaam before the ashram gets closed for the day - but we never thought we would be able to make but still we had planned our journey in such a way. So we had our darshan of Baijnath Temple and we stayed there for about 40  minutes or so.

On the way to Baijnath -
Holy Shri Baijnath Temple

Now, from Baijnath Temple we left for Bhawani - but as we were moving towards Kosani somewhere we read on a board MAHAVTAAR CAVE - just 30 kms away. We decided there and took a right turn towards Dwarhaat. But later we realised that it was not 30 kms but rather 52 kms. We reached the Dungairi Mata Temple and now from here on there was a long secluded road towards the cave. We kept moving and the road ended on a Chai Shop. As we parked our car - a family from Delhi welcomed us in this remote part of the country. He gave us the directions to reach the cave but we never knew that the cave has a timing too. We parked our car in the village - but could not find any road going up to the cave nor anyone who can guide us now.

Way to Dunagiri Cave
Final Motorable Road in Dunagiri - than tracking starts
So we were stuck - and asked Mahavtar Baba to show us the way. Suddenly, we heard a female voice - she asked her to come up to her farms. We followed that voice and reached a farmland - a farmer couple was waiting for us. Before we could ask anything th lady gave us water and prepared tea for us. I was mesmerised by this behaviour of hers and than she asked her husband to show us the way to the cave.

CAUSALLY GIVING US WATER

After some rest we started our trecking uphill towards the cave - it was steep and harsh too but we decided not to complete the track. At one corner a middle aged man was waiting for us - His name was  Rana who showed our way to the Holy CAVE. It is believed that a great great YOGi Mahavtaar baba gave darshan to Great Kriya yogi Shri Lahiri Mahaysas in this cave. Lahiri baba was working with a British Department - one evening while he was enjoying the hills he heard a VOICE - and the voice called his name. He followed the voice and reached the CAVE where he got his sermons on KRIYA YOGA - In modern times Shri Lahiri Baba became the GURU to disperse kriya yoga in this world. He was followed by shri Yukteshwar Giri ji and Yogananda Paramhansa who wrote the Book AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI.
BABAS MEDITATION CENTER BEFORE THE CAVE

So, Finally we made up till the YSS meditational hall before the cave. After taking blessings and enjoying the silence we moved up towards the cave as it was TIME to get the cave closed. Rana ji took us to the cave - and it was an experience in itself to witness and feel the holy cave from where so many saints took birth. But, let me tel u here that that Neem Karoli baba was playing with time with us.

Holy Cave of Mahavtaar baba
We sat in the cave & felt the meeting between Mahavtaar Baba and Shri Lahiri Baba - and sooner it was TIME to close the gates - Rana ji asked us to sum up quickly and lets go back downhill. We did as was asked - we were getting down and also people from Tamil Nadu were climbing the hill because everyone knows that Superstar Rajnikanth is a big disciple of Mahavtaar babaji. It was already 3 and we started our car from Dunagiri. From Dunagiri till Kainchi - the distance was nearly 100 kms - and I thought that i would be impossible for us to reach Maharajji's place today. But we started our journey..... I slept in between and when I woke up we were at Ranikhet .... I remember it was Dusshera that day and we got traffic jams in many places - So, I thought we will enjoy the night in Bhawali and the next day we would come back to Kainchi.

Maharajii and his leelas
But we kept moving and moving & I think it was 7:20 pm in the evening while we reached Kainchi. We immediately stopped the car and rushed to the ashram. Me and Tony were the last to enter the gates - the gatekeeper said - U R LUCKY TO ENJOY THE EVENING ARTI - & he closed the ashram gates. We recited hanuman challisa - sat there with Maharajji and never understood his leela that how he managed TIME for us today..... U R BEYOND
