I crossed Kakrighat so many times in my life, but never I crossed the road to reach the other side of the Divine land. Though on the Highway I used to read about Swami Vivekanand's stay at Kakrighat and also meeting Nantin Baba there. Kakrighat in my opinion the most divine place in India. No other place can boast of so many enlightened souls which might have visited this place.

A great yogi Swami Rama

I was reading a book by Swami Rama, former Shankaracharya of India and also a great great yogi. In his book I found a chapter on Sombari Maharaj & also Gudri Maharaja. With Gudri Maharaj he travelled to the Valley Of Flowers & also to secret Himalayan Monasteries that are forbidden to common man. I was mesmerised by the way he used to narrate stories about Sombari baba & Gudri Maharaj  but never I knew that I could find them in Kakrighat.

Now, Why in my opinion Kakrighat is the holiest place of all just because so many enlightened

Shri Haidakhan Baba

MASTERS used to meditate there. To start with Shri Shri 1008 Neem Karoli Baba, Shri Haidakhan baba, Shri Gudri Maharaja, Nantin baba, Anandmayi Maa, Swami Vivekanand, Swami Ram - all went to Kakrighat. Rather, Sombari baba and Gudri Maharaj used to live there. Both the saints have very small kutiyas and it is impossible for anyone like us to even think to live in them. But saints have a different way of life - Swami Ram writes in his book that when he met Gudri Maharaj in Joshimath he never knew that his yogic powers were beyond any normal yogi to hold on to. Swami Ram was a great yogi but he could not carry Gudri Maharaj's Gudri - a coat - even for some distance and he said sorry to him because he thought he was a profound yogi. Gudri Maharaj broke his ego in his own way. Also, when Swami Ram lost his memory in Valley of Flowers - Gudri Maharaj was kind enough to give his memory back.

GUDRI MAHARAJ'S KUTIA AT KAKRIGHAT 

Kakrighat is known for it's fierce Master Sombari Baba. It is said that he was tough from outside but benevolent from inside. Swami Ram writes in the Himalayan Masters that in modern India he was the only YOGI who knew How to Play with fire. He was a master in Panchagni Siddhi which his Guru Bengali baba told him that it is rarest for the rare Siddhi which a Yogi can do - he should be Shiva himself to do so. I have heard from disciples of Haidakhan baba that once - Haidakhan baba, Sombari Maharaj & Gudri Maharaj were sitting at Kakrighat when Gudri Maharaj said Look Sombari Maharaja - Devtas prepare food for Haidakhan - Haidakhan baba replied - if devtas cook for me than Maa Parvati cooks for Sombari Maharaja.

Fascinted, with these stories I once left Kainchi Dhaam to reach Kakrighat. I reached there and saw Guru Maharaj Neem Karoli Babas temple with Sombari Baba picture as well. The pujari Anoop said Why don't you feed the fishes ? yes there is a river near the temple - and he was kind enough to provide the fish food to us.... later I realised it was all Sombari baba who was making it easy for me.... I went to the river but couldn't see any fish and as I dropped some food thousands came up to have it. It was indeed an experience that how nature works because its a saying in Kakrighat - DONT MESS WITH SOMBARI BABA'S FISHES .... I was lucky to feed his fishes because during British Raj an officer had to say sorry to him and than he was asked to feed the fishes... at first he wanted to hunt the fishes but failed miserably but then when Sombari Baba accepted his apology the fishes came to eat the food offered by the British Officer.

THE BIG BANYAN TREE OF KAKRIGHAT - POWERHOUSE

And off course this HUGE & MYSTICAL Banyan tree can be treated like a Yogi himself - thousand year old tree saw so many Saints meditating under him. He must be the chosen one and also the saints  would have loved to be in his company. Rather he must be seen as the power house of GURU POWER.
