Turmeric: the auspicious herb

 


For the last 4000 years turmeric or haldi has been part of our lives in India. Our ancestors recognised the GOLDEN PROPERTIES of this herb and they used it in such a way that it became part of our lives. No auspicious event in India is complete without using turmeric or haldi. Be it marriages, entering a new home, buying a new car, or any other festival Turmeric has been given a respectable place. We use it as a tikka – on our forehead as it is considered Very auspicious. Therefore no festival in Hindu families are complete without it and not even food. We use it daily in our recipes.


Ayurveda has always used it in a major way in creating medicines. In Sanskrit it is called Harida.

Milk with turmeric is nowadays called the golden milk. It has anti septic properties, increases anti oxidants, destroys free radicals in our bodies. In modern times 3000 medical journals have been published in 25 years. Turmeric is a product of curcuma longa family. From 3000 years India has been the largest producer of Turmeric in the world and India’s turmeric contains curcumins which is considered to the best. A place called Erode in Tamil Nadu is called the Yellow City of India.
